The Making of Thaddeus Stevens's Monument

Bellow you can find articles, interviews and videos that documented my journey as I sculpted this historical monument to honor the life and legacy of Thaddeus Stevens; also known as the Father of the 14th Amendment.

Monument details:

Alex Paul Loza (1978)

"Men In Pursuit Of Justice Must Never Despair" (2021)

Bronze, Commissioned by the Thaddeus Stevens Society, 2019

On April 2nd, 2022 my family and I joined the Thaddeus Stevens Society to participate in the unveiling ceremony outside the Adams County Courthouse, located at 111 Baltimore St. Gettysburg, PA. On that day the Adams County Board of Commissioners proclaimed April 2nd, 2022 as “The Thaddeus Stevens Statue Dedication Day”.

"Working with Alex Paul Loza has been an absolute pleasure and I have been very impressed with his creativity and energy. In preparing his proposal for the Thaddeus Stevens statue, Loza did extensive research on Stevens and was able to capture his vitality and idealism in the model he made for his submission. After winning the commission against other national entries, Loza has been unfailingly cooperative, meeting all deadlines and incorporating all suggestions into his sculpture. As a result, he produced a statue that completely captures the greatness of Thaddeus Stevens. I wholeheartedly recommend Loza and any group would be extremely fortunate to employ him."
