Thaddeus Stevens Monument

The bronze monument "Men In Pursuit of Justice Must Never Despair" is a tribute to Thaddeus Stevens, one of the most pivotal figures in American history. I was selected to create this life-size sculpture after a national search, and it now stands proudly in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania - making it the first public sculpture in the city and only the second in the nation to honor Stevens. Unveiled on April 2nd, 2022, to commemorate Stevens' 230th anniversary (April 4, 1792), the monument was dedicated on a day of historic significance. On that day, the Adams County Board of Commissioners proclaimed April 2nd, 2022, as "Thaddeus Stevens Statue Dedication Day." Positioned in front of the historic Adams County Courthouse, the statue reflects Stevens' unwavering dedication to justice, especially his fight for abolition of slavery and the expansion of civil rights. His right hand is clenched tightly around the 14th Amendment, holding it close to his heart, while his body weight rests on his left club foot - an enduring symbol of strength and resilience. His head and eyes are looking straight ahead, ready to face any challenge, while his head tilts to the right, embodying his constant attentiveness to the needs and voices of the people. His coat billows in the wind, a symbol of the forces he withstood and the relentless pursuit of his ideals. Installed at ground level, the statue signifies that Stevens was one of us, a reminder that we, too, can aspire for greatness and make a lasting impact on history.
