As we say goodbye to 2024, I want to express my deepest gratitude to all of you—friends, art collectors, and supporters—who have been an essential part of this incredible journey. This year has been filled with powerful projects and meaningful collaborations that continue to remind me of art’s ability to connect, inspire, and honor legacies.
In May, I had the honor of creating the UnBought and UnBossed Shirley Chisholm Award for Girls Inc. Chattanooga, celebrating the remarkable leader who broke barriers and continues to inspire generations. In October, I unveiled “The Bessie Smith Legacy Award” (The Bessie) at the Bessie Smith Cultural Center’s Bessie Smith Legacy Gala, where we honored not only the legacy of Chattanooga’s iconic blues singer but also 11 outstanding individuals making a difference in our community. A particularly moving moment was when I had the privilege of gifting a small replica of the statuette to Bessie Smith’s granddaughter, connecting the family legacy to the art.
August brought me to Gettysburg, PA, for the launch of the small statuette replica of the Thaddeus Stevens monument I had the honor of installing in 2022 in front of the Adams County Courthouse. During my visit, I was fortunate enough to explore Thad’s Place, the new museum dedicated to honoring Thaddeus Stevens. It was both humbling and inspiring to see how the monument and statuette continue to resonate with history enthusiasts and collectors alike.
This year also provided the opportunity to create desk-sized cold cast bronze sculptures, including 2 pieces for the Tennessee River Gorge Trust's silent auction, which helped raise critical funds for conservation efforts. I also created smaller bronze sculptures for local collectors, allowing my work to find a place in private collections where it can continue to inspire.
As we celebrate one year since the Smithsonian Magazine featured the Thaddeus Stevens monument in its December 2023 edition, I am filled with gratitude and reflection. The recognition was a significant milestone that continues to fuel my passion for public art and storytelling. It’s a reminder of the powerful conversations sparked by monuments that honor history and the individuals who shaped it.
This year also brought me the privilege of collaborating with WTCI-PBS, appearing on The A-List with Alison Lebovitz, and being interviewed for the premiere of Ken Burns’ Inside the Mind of Leonardo da Vinci. These opportunities allowed me to reflect on the powerful intersection of art and storytelling—a theme that will continue to guide my work in the years to come.
Looking forward to 2025, I’m excited to announce that I will begin posting monthly blog updates and bi-monthly newsletters to keep you connected to my studio work, upcoming projects, and exclusive opportunities to engage with my art. I’m particularly eager to share details of several exciting sculpture projects that will take shape in the new year.
